Courses offered Diploma in pharmacy (D Pharm): The D pharm course was first started in Kerala in the year 1967 in College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Govt. Medical College, Kozhikode. It is two year course under Directorate of Medical Education, Kerala approved by Pharmacy Council of India imparting quality pharmacy education. The admission is offered for 50 students per year. The qualification for admission is plus two in science or mathematics stream. Bachelor of pharmacy (B Pharm): It is 4 year bachelor’s degree course in pharmacy established in the year 2000 is affiliated to Kerala university of health Sciences approved by Pharmacy Council of India and AICTE. The course is presently under semester system with 8 semesters. The admission process is through KEAM entrance conducted by Government of Kerala. In this course the students study about the drugs and medicines, manufacturing of drugs, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacology, phytochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry etc. This course provides a large no. of job opportunities in both the public and private sector including drugs control, government drug testing laboratories, pharmaceutical industries, research laboratories, clinical research organisations etc. Master of Pharmacy (M Pharm): The M Pharm course was started in the year 2008, offering postgraduate programmes in two specialties (Pharmaceutics and Pharmacy practice). It is having an intake of 10 students per year under each specialties. The course is presently under semester system having 4 semesters. The admission process is through All India GPAT examination. The M pharm Pharmaceutics course mainly focus on drug research and formulation development. The M pharm Pharmacy practice department focus on patient counseling, clinical and hospital pharmacy services. Following facilities are offered under the department Drug testing laboratory: Quality control unit functioning under College of Pharmaceutical sciences provides in-house random testing of marketed pharmaceutical products to ensure the quality of medicines distributed in Government Medical College, Kozhikode. Powder dilution Unit: It provide service to pediatric population by converting adult dose (marketed products) in to pediatric dose under aseptic conditions. Formulation Development and Research facility: The formulation development unit offers pharmaceutical product development for various departments and colleges. The novel formulations are developed as per the need of patients and doctors. The research facility is equipped with modern facilities providing a platform for in-house drug development. Patient Counseling Centre: The Patient Counseling Centre in medical college hospital, Kozhikode provides information to patients regarding diseases; drug and drug related matters by Post graduate students of this institution.
